Volvo’s V70 wagons are known for their versatility and they come in many different variants. The vehicle can be used as an off road vehicle if the Cross Country version is what consumers are opting for. True to the tradition of Volvo for producing safe cars, all the models are engineered for optimum safety of its occupants.
Through the years, the Volvo V70 has undergone transformations and each year model bringing something new to the table, whether it is in the exterior design or the interior, or a new engine. This year is not an exception; the company released its 2007 version of their wagon but this time, they have cut down the number of their model variants to 15 from last year’s 46.
What the new model offers though is a Special Edition Sport variant which the company brought up to replace last year’s Sport model. The new Special Edition costs considerably less than its predecessor but still has a great number of special features which includes leather sports upholstery, 5-spoke wheels, chronograph instruments, a new rear spoiler, speed dependent steering technology and color-coordinated front and rear lower spoilers and lower side moldings. These features further enhance the model’s aesthetic value both inside and out. But the car’s special edition billing does not only translate to good looks - it also packs a high degree of performance with the help of reliable Volvo V70 parts along with the huge range of safety systems employed in the vehicle.
While a special edition is added to the lineup, the rest of last year’s trim packages have been eliminated from the equation. For example, consumers can no longer have an all-wheel drive model with the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine or with the D5 variant. The 2.4-liter naturally aspirated and the 2.0-liter turbocharged engines will no longer be available. This is due to the company’s effort to simplify the variants in their current model. Doing so also allowed them to eliminate the slow seller models from their production lineup. The company’s move will be a good step to further increase their sales by concentrating on their fast-selling models.
To keep the lineup simple, the company retained the availability of their more famous variants. These trim packages are the S, SE, Se Sport, and the SE Lux models which are the lineup’s best sellers. Also retained is the high performance 300PS V70R. With the steps taken, the company decided to make their five most popular engines still available to the public. These are the 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine, the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine, the T5, the 2.4-liter diesel engine, the D5 engine. They also offer their Bi-Fuel engine for those environment-conscious consumers. These engines can be coupled to a manual, automatic, or Geartronic transmission depending on the buyer’s preference.
All engines are engineered to be eco-friendly by producing lower emissions. Most notably, the 2.4-lite and the D5 diesel engines have significantly lowered CO2 emission levels than other diesel engines employed by other cars. And since the wagon is a Volvo, safety of the driver and passenger is assured, thanks to the safety systems developed and employed by Volvo on all their cars. All these safety features and the engine’s clean performance translates to better protection of the consumers and the environment which is one of the company’s strongest selling point, aside from its prices which are considerably lower than some of their European counterparts.
